Your Guide to Where to Stay in Japan

Which of these appeal to the traveler in you?

Japan has different accommodations available for every budget. Whether you’re just looking for a place to spend the night or wish to have all your creature comforts with you (for the right price, of course!), there’s a place that’ll suit your needs.

Capsule Hotel

¥3,000 to ¥5,000

Capsule or pod hotels are the most economical choice of accommodation in Japan, and are commonly used by travelers who missed their trains at night.

¥4,000 to ¥7,000

Unlike hostels in other countries, some hostels in Japan can be found within the premises of select shrines and temples.

¥6,000 to ¥9,000

Called minpaku in Japanese, these are ordinary homes that don’t offer services like in hotels.

Business Hotel

¥8,000 to ¥13,000

This type of accommodation is the most common in Japan for business travelers and to those who travel alone, as most business hotels offer single rooms.

Leisure Hotel

¥20,000 to ¥40,000

If you’re traveling with a group and want quality hotel service, this should be your choice of accommodation.

¥20,000 to ¥40,000

Although this is usually the most expensive accommodation in Japan, it’s also where you get to experience a cultural and traditional stay.
