These Food Establishments in Hyogo Prove That It’s a Foodie Destination As Well

The Hyogo Prefecture in Japan hides plenty of cafes, restaurants, and bars where tourists can stop by and enjoy a hearty meal in between tours around the area. In this article, we feature a restaurant that specializes in crab bowls, a bar known for their melt-in-your-mouth beef, and a quiet cafe located along the Otani River.

Kanikobo Maruya is a crab studio directly run by crab specialist Maruya Suisan. Apart from the Kasumi souvenirs and processed seafood, the store also has a fireplace where you can enjoy dishes with crabs that are freshly-caught from the Kasumi fishing harbor. The dishes that contain plenty of Kasumi crabs are available at the store until May.

When enjoying the restaurant’s dishes, we recommend eating the crab meat first then pouring the crab soup over the meat afterward.

Bishoku Yuraku Tomiya
Bishoku Yuraku Tomiya is a Japanese-style bar that the owner, who had his training in Japanese-style cuisine, runs in his hometown in Kinosaki. The bar’s creative dishes, which use fish caught near Tajima, are so delicious that many locals come here to eat. Their Tajima beef is served spit-roasted or hand-shaped, while their marbled beef has a melt-in-your-mouth quality.
Two Spit-Roasted Tajima Beef (¥1,000, front, available year-round) and Two Hand-Shaped Tajima Beef (¥1,500, back, available year-round)
The Spit-Roasted and Hand-Shaped Meat make use of the triangle rib of Tajima, which can be scarcely cut from one cow.

Kinosaki TOKIWA GARDEN
Kinosaki TOKIWA GARDEN is a café & BBQ shop that opened last November on the riverside of Otani River. This river runs through many of Kinosaki’s hot springs. You can enjoy specialty coffee and homemade sweets in the machiya-like shop that blends with the atmosphere of the town. The self-style BBQ using a large stove is also popular among customers of the shop.
Café menus such as Homemade Pudding (¥507, middle), Green Tea Latte (¥702) made with Kyoto Ippodo Tea green tea, and Caramel Latte (¥702)
