These Cafés in Kansai Are Introducing a New Subscription System for Your Coffee

You'll only need to pay for your coffee once a month.

Subscription options in the food and drink industry have started creating a buzz in Japan last year. More and more shops around the country are trying out this new alternative to multiple orders.

In this article, we introduce two shops in Kansai that run a reasonably priced subscription of drinks.

ALL DAY COFFEE

ALL DAY COFFEE
opened on the first basement floor of Grand Front Osaka in 2013. Here, you can enjoy café latte, which is made of hand-dripped coffee, and deeply roasted espresso. The cafe’s subscription services started last September 9, 2019. This allows customers to order 25 cups of Americano coffee a month for ¥3,200 or café latte for ¥4,500 a month.

You can enjoy your Americano coffee and café latte hot or iced. The subscription is available for to-go orders only.

The shop’s service menu was made for regular customers who buy coffee after lunch. “We believe that we can offer drinks that heavy users seek through this subscription service. For now, it’s limited to 30 people, but we hope to increase the number if we see the need,” the PR representative tells us.

To order, simply show the smartphone app at the register.

The subscription service makes ordering faster and more convenient for customers.

ALL DAY COFFEE is located at B1/F Umekita Plaza, Grand Front Osaka, 4-1 Ofukacho, Kita District, Osaka and is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. You may contact them at +81-6-6359-2090. It is a 1-minute walk from JR Osaka Station and a 3-minute walk from Hankyu Osaka Umeda.

Coffee Base KANONDO
is a café that serves more than 10 kinds of hot air roasted or hand-dripped coffee. It also offers the always DRINK, a service where you can grab a cup of coffee from any of its participating stores.

You can enjoy hand-dripped coffee using the subscription. There is no membership card for this original subscription.

At Nakagyo District and Shimogyo District, you can drink as many cups of coffee as you want, without any limits, at 11 stores for ¥2,200 a month.
Yuko Sato, from the operating company IJGN, proudly says that the system has increased the number of customers the stores serve each day. In addition to this, the system also proved helpful for shops that not only wants double the customers but also returning visitors.

For always DRINK, you can scan the QR code at the register using your smartphone.

The shop offers two types of subscription: 25 cups of blend coffee for ¥5,000 a month and unlimited cups of coffee for ¥7,500 a month.

"More customers avail of the ¥7,500 plan since it allows you to choose from most of the coffee options in our menu," says owner
Yoshihisa Kioi.

Coffee Base KANONDO is located at 3/F Miyako Building, 466 Kanondocho, Nakagyo District, Kyoto and is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends and Japanese holidays. You may contact them at +81-75-741-8718. It is a 3-minute walk from Hankyu Karasuma Station and Subway Shijo Station.

Curious as to why this system is such a big hit?

Well, the average number of times a frequent customer visits coffee shops is twice a day. A real coffee lover, on the other hand, drops by in the morning, after lunch, and on their way home.

The most cups of coffee a customer has in a month using Coffee Base KONANDO’s unlimited course is 50 cups. The number of cups increases when they get to enjoy different kinds of coffee beans.

Meanwhile
, the number of shops available for the always DRINK subscription in the Nakagyo District and Shimogyo District area is 11. Aside from this, 18 stores are available for always LUNCH, which lets you enjoy lunch for ¥5,478 a month.

Kioi predicts that subscription food and drinks will spread more in the future.
