This Shoyu Dressing Is a Handy Ingredient to Have When Cooking at Home

If you have ever been to a Japanese supermarket, you may have seen this soy sauce-based Japanese dressing called
Pietro Dressing Wafu Shoyu on the shelves of salad dressings. It is the leading product of the 40-year-old Fukuoka founded company, PIETRO Co., Ltd., which was formerly known as Yomenya Pietro.


The dressing is made with carefully selected domestically produced onions which were chopped piece by piece. It has undergone meticulous production that only made people love it that you will find it in almost every home.   


Here, we will share with you five easy-to-prepare recipes with the use of Pietro Dressing.


Pietro Dressing Wafu Shoyu


Yaki Buta Chahan
(Pork Fried Rice)


Non-sticky fried rice with the use of the dressing.


Ingredients (for two servings):

  • Rice (300g)
  • Fried pork (50g), diced about 1cm
  • Onion (quarter of a piece), chopped
  • Thin spring onions (2 sticks), chopped
  • Pietro Dressing Wafu Shoyu (4 tbsp.)


Instructions (takes about 15 minutes):

  1. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Fry it on a pan without adding any cooking oil.


Tori no Karaage
(Fried Chicken)


Everyone’s favorite, fried chicken made even tastier!


Ingredients (for two servings):

  • Chicken leg (1pc.), cut into bite-sized pieces
  • Potato starch or cornstarch (about a tsp.)
  • Pietro Dressing Wafu Shoyu (3 tbsp.)


Instructions (takes about 30 minutes):

  1. Marinate the chicken into the Pietro Dressing Wafu Shoyu for about 20 minutes.
  2. Dredge the starch on to the marinated chicken and deep fry with a heated oil of 180℃.


Chirimenjako German Potato
(Dried Young Sardines in German Style Fried Potatoes) 


A perfect combination of crunchy chirimenjako and crispy potatoes with a hint of soy sauce.


Ingredients (for two servings):

  • Chirimenjako (10g)
  • Olive oil (2 tsp.)
  • Potatoes (2 pcs. about 300g), peeled and cut into bite-sized pieces
  • Parsley (as desired), chopped
  • Pietro Dressing Wafu Shoyu (2 tbsp.)


Instructions (takes about 15 minutes): 

  1. Fry the chirimenjako in olive oil until crunchy, remove the excess oil then set aside.
  2. Dry roast the potatoes in a pan until you get the moisture out of the potatoes, then add the dressing and mix well.
  3. Mix the fried chirimenjako and parsley to finish.


Pietro-style Goya Champuru (Bitter Melon Stir Fry)


A healthy dish with only the Pietro Dressing as seasoning.


Ingredients (for two servings):

  • Bitter Melon (half a piece), cut in half lengthwise with seeds removed, then cut into 3mm slices
  • Tofu (half a piece), cut into bite-sized pieces
  • Thin-sliced pork belly (35g), cut into 3cm pieces
  • Onion (50g), cut into wedges
  • Egg (1pc)
  • Pietro Dressing (3 tbsp.)


Instructions (takes about 20 minutes): 

  1. Stir-fry the pork, then add the bitter melon and onion.
  2. Once everything is cooked through, add the tofu and dressing.
  3. Add the egg.
  4. Transfer to a plate then serve.


Kinoko no Yofu Takikomi Gohan
(Western-style Seasoned Rice with Mushroom)


Enjoy a bowl of seasoned rice with lots of mushrooms simply flavored with dressing.


Ingredients (for two to three servings):

  • Shimeji mushroom (half a pack), cut the base and separate with hands
  • Maitake mushroom (half a pack), cut the base and separate with hands
  • Rice (3 cups)
  • Powdered cheese (as desired)
  • Parsley (as desired)
  • Pietro Dressing Wafu Shoyu (6½ tbsp.)


Instructions (takes about 40 minutes): 

  1. In a rice cooker, combine rice, mushrooms, dressing, and put on water for a 3-cup rice measurement. Cook.
  2. Once rice is cooked, mix everything together.
  3. Transfer into a bowl, sprinkle with cheese and parsley to finish.
