Panda Lovers, This Japanese Snack Is for You
It was created in honor of Ueno Zoo's baby panda, Xiang Xiang.
Cereal sweet shop Sugar Butter Tree has released a new product called Panda’s Sugar Butter Tree Sandwich (5 pieces for ¥540).
This product was specially designed to celebrate the debut of Xiang Xiang, the newborn panda. Having become the stationmaster of Ueno Station near Ueno Zoo, the baby panda is depicted with a cute stationmaster’s hat on the package. You can’t miss the panda peeping out from the side of box either.
The Panda’s Sugar Butter Tree Sandwich immediately became a popular snack. More than a million boxes were sold in just a month after its release. It is sprinkled with sugar butter and baked until it is golden brown. Then each panda face is carefully drawn and finished with milk-scented white chocolate in the middle.
Panda’s Sugar Butter Tree Sandwich is available at the Sugar Butter Tree JR Ueno Shop, JR Tokyo Shop, and Tokyo Solamachi.
