This Open-Air Food Stall in Fukuoka Combines Local Fare with Chinese Cuisine

Tenjin Nigiwai Yatai Tecchan opened in April 2017 (Chuo-ku, Fukuoka). Located in front of Daimaru Fukuoka Tenjin, the food stall is helmed by Umehara Tetsuya, who has about 15 years of experience cooking Chinese cuisine. While it offers Hakata specialties such as pork bone ramen and seasoned cod roe cuisine for tourists, it also features a menu containing a rich variety of Chinese cuisine.

While there, make sure to order the exquisite sweet and spicy Cheese Shrimp Chili (¥750), but also the Shrimp and Seasoned Cod Roe Fried Cheese (¥600) with seasoned cod roe and hand-wrapped shrimp. Grilled foods that use charcoal fire and fried foods are made to order. 

The spicy Mabo Tofu (¥700) with Sichuan peppers is also notable. Order it on its own or as a topping for a portion of Ramen Refill (¥150). Grilled Ramen, which is cooked in grilled soba style with Shanghai-style oyster sauce, has a good reputation, too. 

The food stall is just right next to the Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station, so you won’t have a hard time looking for it.
