When SOLFAMILIA group, the company that established popular cafés such as Café del SOL, opened Killer coffee&cream lab in October 2017, it quickly became one of Daimyo’s most popular cafés.
The secret to its popularity? Wings.
The café serves ice cream garnished with wing-shaped cookies. Of course, there are other options as well because you can customize your own ice cream! You can choose from an array of toppings, including heart-shaped chocolates and 10 kinds of cookies, which are shaped like crowns, candy, and mermaid fins. On Christmas and Halloween, seasonal cookies are also available.
This ice cream (¥486) is their most popular, which is hardly surprising because it looks so cute! For an additional ¥108, you can add three toppings.
The cones are black because they are made from a cocoa dough base. (The color of the cone helps the ice cream stand out!)
The ice cream itself is made from a rich cream from the Konsen area of Hokkaido, which is a region famous for its dairy products. Killer coffee&cream lab is the only one from SOLFAMILIA group that uses this type of fresh cream. The ice-cream has a nice flavor--rich, but not too sweet.
The variety of cookies to decorate your ice-cream with makes for a unique dessert, perfect for photographs!
Of course, if you want something more substantial than ice cream, Killer coffee&cream lab offers hot lunches and homemade waffles to fill up with! Their meals, such as the Hot Gratin Plate (¥1,026) and the Good Old Neapolitan (¥1,026) are highly recommended.
Their homemade waffles are also good. The waffles are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, with maple-butter sauce drizzled on top. Every waffle also comes with a mini ice cream, so that’s a win-win!
The Seasonal Fruits Waffle (¥1,026) is so good, you can eat it all by yourself. It is served with fresh fruit toppings (strawberries in the springtime, and mangoes in the summer).
And how can we forget about the coffee? The café stocks special coffee from Oita Prefecture’s 3CEDARS COFFEE and Townsquare Coffee Roasters (located in Chiyo, Fukuoka City).
Their coffee is hand-dripped and carefully poured, which will surely refresh you after a long day of shopping around town. If coffee is not to your liking, they also offer seven kinds of flavored milk, frappuccinos, teas, and flavored teas.
This latte (¥486) is made from beans that were outsourced from Townsquare Coffee Roasters. You can add caramel or chocolate syrup for an additional ¥54.
Killer coffee&cream lab also serves to-go orders, the first to do so among the SOLFAMILIA group. You can have their ice cream and drinks to go. Seasonal waffles and sandwiches will be available for take-out soon as well.
It’s all about the aesthetics here: Killer coffee&cream lab’s walls are painted pink and mint green, channelling a beach house. Their vintage tables have iron legs from sewing machines, and you can even sit on their window sills.
Enjoy a nice cup of coffee while watching the street outside through a large glass window.
The store’s image changes a lot depending on where you sit, so try to find your favorite spot!
Be sure to drop by Killer coffee&cream lab. Better go before tourist season though if you want to avoid the crowds!
