Gyouza-no-Tacchan, a dumpling shop opened by popular grilled meat restaurant Saikou-gyu, is known for serving delicious dumplings, appetizers, and alcoholic drinks all for under ¥1,000. Its location at the center of Fukuoka’s number one downtown area, makes it conveniently accessible from the station.
Gyouza-no-Tacchan is located along a backstreet where a series of popular restaurants stand in line.
The 64-seating capacity makes the shop conducive for party use as well. HAPPY HOUR is from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The dumplings and drinks by this time are half the price.
The cheerful staffs greet the customers with a big smile.
Mr. Tatsuo Shigaki, the mastermind behind Gyouza-no-Tacchan, expanded his business within major cities all over Japan. He prides his shop for serving delicious dumplings and ala carte dishes offered within the range of ¥194 to ¥500.
The shop’s Grilled Dumplings are garlic-free and are made using a 0.5 millimeter thick dough, which gives them their crispy and chewy texture.
The shop offers three types of dumplings: classic grilled, soup boiled, and juicy-grilled. The Classic Fried Dumpling (¥302 for 7 pieces) is loaded with vegetable-based paste without garlic. The ratio between the vegetables and the meat is 8:2, which gives the dumpling an extraordinary flavor even without the sauce.
The dipping sauce for the dumplings is customizable. 2 (meat miso): 1 (soy sauce): 1 (vinegar) is the recommended combination.
You can make your original dipping sauce by combining meat miso, soy sauce, and vinegar on the table. The flavor of dumpling expands when you dip it into the rich sauce. The dumpling itself becomes surprisingly crispy through a grilling method called “the wide side grill.”
The juice of the vegetables and the meat of the Juicy Grilled Dumplings will overflow as soon as you eat.
The Juicy Grilled Dumplings (¥518 for 4 pieces) are also popular. You can taste the full flavor of the meat juice and ingredients, including the onions, from the filling. The sound of the dish sizzling on the hot plates will only make your appetite grow.
The bestselling dishes are regularly displayed. Each plate costs from ¥194.
Niku-Dofu with Seasoned Eggs
The 15 most popular dishes are constantly displayed. Niku-dofu with Eggs (¥518) is beef and tofu simmered in a sweet-spicy soy sauce-based sauce, and the Original Potato Salad (¥410) has a savory taste, which perfectly matches the drinks.
To make the Lemon Fizz, soda is added in the shochu (Japanese hard liquor) flavored with lemon. They also have the Double Lemon Fizz and the Lemon Lime Fizz (each ¥486).
They have a variety of alcoholic drinks available from ¥410 such as beer, sour, shochu and wine. Make sure to try the Lemon Fizz (¥410). The lemon squeezed in the shochu produces a refreshing flavor.
