This Thick Soft-Serve Ice Cream Is So Popular in Osaka
It actually goes well with a lot of desserts!
Soft-serve ice cream is just one among the many desserts available in the different shops and cafés in Japan. But recently, more people have been raving about a thicker and creamier version of the classic soft-serve ice cream called CREMIA.
CREMIA is a premium soft-serve ice cream that has become popular in Japan for its thick milky flavor and fresh taste. Its rich soft cream contains 25 percent of Hokkaido fresh cream and 12.5 percent of deep whipped cream.
While pairing it with a melt-in-your-mouth langue de chat cone is one way of enjoying this dessert, we found three establishments in Osaka that serve this ice cream in a variety of ways. You’ll be surprised with how perfectly it goes well with a number of desserts!
TERRACE Umeda Chaya Machi Store
3-17, Tsuruno-cho, Kita Ward, Osaka City, Osaka
Open from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on weekends and holidays.
TERRACE Umeda Chaya Machi Store offers several French toast plates in their menu. They make use of the fresh bread, Appaleil, from the dans March’e bakery in creating their specialty desserts.
The shop remarkably adds CREMIA on top of their French toast dishes and loads them with toppings to elevate their flavors. Their mouthwatering French toast dishes are served on a hot iron plate and will give your taste buds that perfect hot and cold feeling.
The shop pours a healthy amount of CREMIA on top of the freshly-made French toasts.
You can also try their Affogato French Toast (¥1,180), which features a coffee-flavored French toast topped with oreo pieces, almonds, cocoa powder, CREMIA, and a sweet cone.
The Premium Terrace (¥880), an eight-centimeter French toast, is the store’s signature dish. The toast in this dish is exceptionally moist, flavorful, and mild. You can also choose to add CREMIA as a topping for only ¥200.
The shop’s interiors have a distinctly European feel.
If you only want the soft-serve ice cream, they also offer the CREMIA Cup (¥600), which is available for both dine in and takeout.
SOFTCREAM LAND Sweden Hankyu 3rd Street Store
1-1-3, Shibata, Kita Ward, Osaka City, Osaka
Open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
SOFTCREAM LAND Sweden Hankyu 3rd Street Store is a soft cream shop operated directly by the company that developed CREMIA.
In November 2017, two parfaits from this store significantly boosted the popularity of CREMIA. In addition to this, the store’s chocolate CREMIA, introduced in March 2018, is becoming more in demand.
The CREMIA Coffee (¥850) and CREMIA Matcha (¥850) parfaits are the main attractions of this store. These original desserts from Hankyu consist of CREMIA and langue de chat placed on top of flavored jelly cubes.
The jelly that they use is homemade. Unlike the thick CREMIA, the jelly’s matcha flavor is not too thick nor too plain.
The store also serves CREMIA on a sweet cone, which lets you appreciate the original taste of the soft cream. The store has continuously been experimenting with the way they serve CREMIA to give their customers the perfect balance of flavors.
Their CREMIA Chocolate (¥515) features the flavors of cacao beans from Ecuador and chocolate from Belgium.
The CREMIA Mix (¥515), on the other hand, lets you enjoy the chocolate soft cream and premium fresh soft cream at the same time.
There’s a soft cream machine for each of the CREMIA flavors.
The store’s mascots, Nikkun and Seichan, welcome you at the entrance.
The soft cream is available for both dine-in and take-out.
