These Cafés in Japan Are Known For Their Brightly Colored Desserts

Many shops serving Instagrammable snacks and desserts are continuously popping up around Japan. Most of the items on their menu come in the form of creatively designed smoothies, colorful toasts, and delightful sweets, among many others.
In this article, we introduce three different stores in Japan that whip up several of the cutest and most IG-worthy treats!
LITT UP. KYOTO
LITT UP. KYOTO is a café that opened in Gion last May 2018. It transferred near the Sanjusangendo (Hall of the Lotus King) during autumn of the same year. Since then, the shop has updated their menu with various new items and products, such as colorful toasts and sweets made from organic ingredients and drinks that change colors.
Sky Vibes on Toast
The Sky Vibes on Toast (¥800) is a popular dish that makes use of two types of cream cheese as toppings and utilizes the color of its organic ingredients to produce a colorful hue . The shop’s attractive and flavorful menu is quite a big hit among their female customers.
The store takes pride in using organic ingredients to create natural colors for their original sweets and drinks.
“The blue tones are made from butterfly pea herb tea, while the pink hues are made from beets. We only use organic ingredients that are good for the body,” the owner, Ms. Kawamoto explains.
The shop’s neutral-colored interiors give off a chic vibe.
If you’re strolling around the Sanjusangendo or Kyoto National Museum, this shop is the perfect place to have a short break at.
LITT UP. KYOTO is located on the second floor of 6-14 Honmachi, Higashiyama District, Kyoto. It is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily except on Mondays and Thursdays. You can get there through a 5-minute walk from the Keihan Shichijo Station.
JTRRD café - Osaka Namba Branch
With the demand for artistic smoothies growing higher in Japan, Temmabashi’s famous JTRRD café opened its take-out stand called the JTRRD café Osaka Namba Branch. Compared to its main branch, the take-out stand is expected to accommodate more customers due to its faster service and customer rotation.This effort has made it easier for more people to enjoy the shop’s products.
In addition to this, part of what makes the café special is that the customers can choose the style of their drinks.

The Purple Smoothie (¥900) is a blueberry-based drink that’s known for its gentle sweetness. The Pink Smoothie, on the other hand, contains raspberries that give the drink its perfect sweet and sour taste.
The bright hues of their beverages are produced by the fruits and vegetables used in the drinks. These artistic designs are specially created by the shop’s highly-trained staff.
The drinks in the shop can be customized to your liking.
Customers can choose from four different drink designs, five base colors, and other fruits that they want to add to their drinks. The options for the fruit slices shall be updated soon to include seasonal fruits.
“The bottom layers of the smoothies contain yogurt and basil seeds to make the drinks delicious, artistic, and healthy,” explains one of the staff members.
The shop’s interior design has a natural ambiance.
JTRRD café - Osaka Namba Branch is located on the first floor of Oak Building, 1-18-15 Nambanaka, Naniwa District, Osaka. It is open from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. daily except on Mondays. You can get there through a 3-minute walk from the Namba Subway Station.
TRIPLE “X” CAFÉ
The TRIPLE “X” CAFE offers a photogenic menu containing mouthwatering “sweets meant to be enjoyed while strolling around Shinsekai.” The shop’s Dora Parfait is one of the most popular and eye-catching items in their menu. The dessert’s texture and flavor will definitely leave you wanting for more. Aside from that, another must-try in their menu is the Seven Colors of the Rainbow Cheese Toast (¥580).
The Dora Red Bean Butter-Whipped Cream Parfait (front) contains chunky sweet red bean paste, unsalted butter, and whipped cream. Behind it is the Dora Strawberry Green Tea Parfait.
The Dora Red Bean Butter-Whipped Cream Parfait (¥220) has a distinctive mild sweetness which customers will very much enjoy. On the other hand, the Dora Strawberry Green Tea Parfait (¥300) has a crispy, chocolatey texture, and is made with yakifu (a processed wheat gluten that’s grilled to have a crunchy texture) coated with green tea chocolate.
The Dora Strawberry Green Tea Parfait has a savory taste and moist texture. The pastry goes perfectly well with the lightly-sweetened red bean paste and whipped cream.
The Colorful Rainbow XXX Parfait is offered only to 10 customers per day.
“The Rainbow XXX Parfait (¥880) consists of five layers of pudding, such as kiwi, and is topped with a fluffy sponge cake. You should definitely give it a try!” one of the shop’s staff says.
The cute, pink bus stop sign is the landmark of the shop. While most usually order their food for takeout, the shop also has an available eating space for their customers.
TRIPLE “X” CAFÉ is located at 2-3-4 Ebisuhigashi, Naniwa District, Osaka. It is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. during weekdays and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. during weekends and holidays. You can get there through a 4-minute walk from the Ebisucho Subway Station.
