This Kyoto Cafe Offers More Than Just Wonderful Latte Art
Heads up to all coffee lovers!
Latteart Junkies RoastingShop (2nd Kitano-tenmangu)
839-3 Kamiyagawa, Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto
Open daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Located near Kitano-tenmangu, a Shinto shrine in Kamigyo-ku, Kyoto, is the second branch of Latteart Junkies RoastingShop. Expect nothing less than fascinating latte art from this coffee shop as the owner, Tsuyoshi Onishi, is a renowned barista with over 20 years of experience in the craft. Apart from running this business, he has also won several competitions and has been consistently participating in the COFFEE FEST WORLD LATTEART CHAMPIONSHIP since 2012. He opened the first branch of Latteart Junkies RoastingShop in Horikawa-shimei, Kyoto in 2015.
Apart from the latte art, the shop also carries coffee-flavored desserts. The Affogato (¥594), for one, is a delight to the senses. Watch the gelato “drown” as a shot of hot espresso is poured over it right upon serving.
For those who are after something more filling, the Junkies Burger (¥734) is a treat for beef and cheese lovers. This sandwich goes well with a cup of Café Latte (¥540) adorned with a latte art of angel’s wings.
Other products are also available here, too, such as cream cheese, pound cake, and youkan or sweet bean jelly, to name a few.
Attention to detail is evident not just in the latte art and the food. Even the cups and pitchers come with assorted designs and sizes to match the artistry of the latte art the cafe is known for. These cups are from Arita-yaki, one of Japan’s porcelain brands.
