When in Kyoto, drop by Kyoto Gion Anon Main Store and help yourself to their limited edition An-Ekurea, cream puffs that are shaped into éclairs. The puffs are firm and crispy on the outside, with a texture that is similar to that of a cookie, and is garnished with gold dust as topping. Just like cream puffs, inside each piece is a creamy filling--this one in particular is a combination of stuffed sweet bean paste and whipped cream.
Both the red beans used to create the sweet bean and the milk for the whipped cream are from Hokkaido. They use matcha from Marukyu Koyamaen and white chocolates from Belgium.
Because the An-Ekurea eclairs are all handmade, they only sell 30 pieces per day. They expire on the day they are made, so it's best to consume them right after purchase at their eat-in corner. If you want to save them for later, store them inside a cooler. That said, make sure to be there early to have a piece of this sweet treat!
