Over the past year, more than 100 meat specialty restaurants have opened in Fukuoka. Each of them is introducing new ways of serving steaks, involving low-temperature cooking techniques and rare premium branded beef, to satisfy their customers. This just goes to show that the meat restaurant scene in Japan is continuously evolving and becoming even more popular.

Fukuoka Tonteki Porco Yakuin Store

Fukuoka Tonteki Porco Yakuin Store is the second Teppan Tonteki restaurant located in Kotabe, Sawara District. Their Tonteki (pork steak) is cooked in low temperature before grilling to remove excess fat and make the meat softer and more tender. 

Teppan Tonteki Set (300g, ¥1,660)

Porco Rice (¥780) is a hearty menu item with meat and cheese.

What’s more, the restaurant lets you choose what sauce and how many grams of meat you’d like for your dish. Their dishes also come with a healthy serving of shredded cabbage and mashed potatoes. 

The Tonberg Set (¥1,210) is made of ground pork and Tonteki pork.

Daichan Steak 

Daichan Steak
is a restaurant owned by meat lover, Daiji Mizusaki. In an effort to remove the traditional notion of U.S. beef being cheap and having lower value, he decided to offer quality and tender U.S. beef at an amazing volume and price.  

Daichan Steak (300g, ¥1,400)

The Daichan Hamburger (¥918) is a hand-mixed hamburger steak.

More than 50% of the restaurant’s customers continue to come back to get a taste of their premium steaks. Besides this, the restaurant also offers Japanese beefsteak at dinnertime. 

The Zeitaku Steak (200g, ¥3,240) uses Japanese beef A5 grade rump that is recommended cooked in rare.

Daichan Steak is located at 2-7-11 Minato, Chuo District, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture and is open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. You may contact them at +81-92-726-6244.

Chikuho Gyuniku Shokudo 1028 (Tetsuya) 

NIKU Baru 1028 from Hirao moved and reopened with the new name,
Chikuho Gyuniku Shokudo 1028. This is one of the few shops that have Fukuoka’s oldest beef brand, Chikuho Gyu, on its menu. 

Chikuho Gyu Ichibo (100g, ¥2,700) boasts of a rich taste.


The Gyutan Sausage (¥864) consists of minced meat with caul fat wrapped in low temperature cooked beef tongue. 

The restaurant’s grill is filled with charcoal to bring out the full
umami of their meat dishes. During the fall, deer and wild boar meat also appear on their menu. 

Chikuho Gyuniku Shokudo 1028 (Tetsuya) is located at 1/F Daiichi Kozai Bldg., 2-6-10 Haruyoshi, Chuo District, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture and is open from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. daily except Mondays. Niku Saikyo Densetsu Shikanoshima Branch 

Niku Saikyo Densetsu Shikanoshima Branch
is operated by Hakata's celebrity Kenji Kikukawa, who has opened several other stores, like Ichibanboshi, in Kiyokawa, also in Fukuoka. This shop doesn’t use frozen products and only handles raw meat from the U.S. and Australia. 

Shikanoshima Steak (200g, ¥1,356)

Shikanoshimaburg (195g, ¥1,296) has a fleshy taste and is overflowing with meat juice. 

The fats are taken out to leave only the delicious red meat for some of the restaurant’s dishes. Rare parts are also offered at reasonable prices.  

The Gyusuji Nikomi (¥324) is made up of cut gristly meat simmered in sake and soy sauce.

Niku Saikyo Densetsu Shikanoshima Branch is located at 736-53 Shikanoshima, Higashi District, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture and is open from 11 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily except Thursdays. It is open on a Thursday if it is a holiday. You may contact them at +81-92-603-0001.
