Nishiki Market is a popular spot located in the center of the town that many Kyoto visitors frequent every year. There are many shops where you can have meals made with ingredients unique to Kyoto. Enjoy a delicious lunch of sea cucumber, mackerel, and Kyoto meat!

You’ll want to try the domestic beef sushi at Hyakushokuya Sushi Beef even if you have to line up.

Beef sushi specialty restaurant
Hyakushokuya always has a long queue for its steak beef bowl which uses domestic beef. The gourmet restaurant uses carefully selected ingredients such as beef, rice, and sushi vinegar. Aside from the sushi with three different flavors, there is also the Japanese beef chazuke (rice with soup stock).

Sushi Beef Set (¥1,190) contains three pieces of
nigiri sushi, three pieces of gunkan (sushi wrapped in seaweed), three pieces of sushi roll, each with different tastes. Served with hot Japanese vermicelli.

There are counter seats, table seats, and
seats inside the shop. Take-out is also available. 

Hyakushokuya Sushi Beef is located on the second floor of 215 Kajiyacho, Nakagyo Distrct, Kyoto.

Kyoto Steak Nandaimon Nishiki branch is a steak restaurant where you can eat the Hirai beef from Kyotamba.

Nandaimon is a highly appraised yakiniku restaurant with a branch in Nishiki Market where you can enjoy Kyoto beef steak served in Japanese style. The main dish is the steak which uses
Hirai beef from Kyotamba. The roast beef is also popular, made by the main chef who has previous experience in French cuisine.

Wagyu hitsumabushi (beef on bowl) & mini sushi set (¥1,800). Feel free to use the condiments and Japanese dashi (soup stock) to suit your taste.

The restaurant has Japanese-style interiors with paintings in the ceilings. There are also tatami seats.

From Nishiki Market to the restaurant entrance, you can pass by a lot of Kyoto-like narrow streets.

Kyoto Steak Nandaimon Nishiki branch is located on
 the first floor of Nishiki Harumi bldg., 484 Nakauoya-cho, Nakagyo District, Kyoto. You may contact them at +81-75-231-4129. They are open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily except on Mondays (or the following day if it’s a Japanese holiday).


Fumiya Nishiki branch, where you can have traditional Kyoto ingredients such as nama-fu (gluten cake) and nama-yuba (tofu skin).

Fumiya is famous for its
nabeyaki udon (wheat noodles in hotpot) and desserts. It has been renovated and reopened in October last year and has become an exclusive restaurant for udon. The dashi used is slightly sweet Kyoto-style that uses Rishiri kombu (kelp) luxuriously. It mostly uses ingredients sold in Nishiki Market.

Shippoku Udon (¥780). Uses ingredients sold in Nishiki Market such as the nama-yuba from Yubakichi and nama-fu from Fuka. /Fumiya Nishiki branch

Renovated local house. The first floor mainly has counter seats, while there are table seats on the second floor/ Fumiya Nishiki branch.

The store is at the southwest corner of the intersection of Nishiki Market and Sakaimachi-dori. There is seating available for those who are waiting for a table.

Sushi Sakai, where you can enjoy the lavish mackerel sushi which uses one whole mackerel.

Open in the west side of Nishiki Market since 1953, this sushi restaurant always has a queue. The current owner is the second-generation husband and wife, who cut, prepare, and make the sushi with fresh mackerel bought every morning. The famous sushi in the restaurant is fresh as ever because they start cleaning the fish only after accepting the order.

Mackerel sushi (approx. ¥3,000). As they use different parts from the head to the tail, you can enjoy the difference in taste depending on the body part/ Sushi Sakai

The store is small and fits only six people. The owner says that it’s the perfect size for him and his wife to prepare and serve/ Sushi Sakai

Nishiki-koji Maruki serves fluffy oyako-don (chicken and egg rice bowl). 

It is a public dining hall that has about a 70-year history. They mainly serve noodles and rice bowls and have been loved by a lot of students ever since. Their
oyako-don, served with sweet dashi and blends with Japanese pepper, is their most popular item on the menu.

Oyako-don (¥770). The rice bowl, which uses two eggs, is fluffy and the eggs don’t become hard even if you don’t eat it right away. The chicken goes perfectly with the rice as well! /Nishiki-koji Maruki


There is a ceiling fan in this traditional-style restaurant. It is quite popular among foreigners. /Nishiki-koji Maruki

Nishikikoji Maruki is located at Nishiki Market, Nakagyo District, Kyoto. You may contact them at +81-75-221-5927. They are open from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. except on Wednesdays and two Tuesdays every month.

Nishiki Hirano serves Japanese-style hamburgers, which is special to Kyoto.

Beside a deli shop, they have a restaurant which serves dishes using the deli. Mainly selling fish and meat, you can also enjoy the Kyoto gourmet with their breakfast, which uses different types of deli, the freshly-made tempura, or sashimi lunch that uses fresh fish sold in Nishiki Market.

The restaurant is in the inner part of the shop. They sell more than 50 types of handmade deli daily. / Nishiki Hirano
