This Pass Is Perfect for Tourists Visiting Osaka, Kyoto, Nara and Other Nearby Prefectures

We tested it out ourselves!

If you’re looking for a way to save money on your next trip to the Kansai area, you might want to consider getting a
Kansai Thru Pass (KTP). This doesn’t just help you save on transportation fees, but also gets you discounts for roughly 300 popular tourist attractions. You can check out the full list of deals here.

The pass offers unlimited and easy access to all six prefectures of the Kansai area by select buses and trains for either two or three days. The 2-day tickets cost ¥4,400 for adults and ¥2,200 for children ages six to 12. The 3-day tickets cost ¥5,500 for adults and ¥2,750 for children ages six to 12.

You don’t have to use the card on consecutive days either because one day is counted as a use within a day, so you can choose to use the KTP only on days when you’re scheduled to travel a lot. Check out the full map

We tried using the passes ourselves, and we made a log of our recommendations. Here are three one-day trip itineraries using the KTP: Kobe day trip, Kyoto day trip, and Osaka day trip.

The KTP is available for purchase from Japan or online. Depending on the country, tickets are also available for purchase from an authorized ticket reseller. For more details check their
homepage. Note that you must be a foreign tourist visiting Japan on a short-stay entry status or a person accompanying the aforementioned under the condition that the ticket is used at the same time period.
