You may be familiar with US and UK sizing, but Japanese units of measurements are different compared to other countries in terms of distance, weight, body weight, clothing sizes, shoes sizes, or temperature etc. Knowing what Japanese measurements can help a lot in shopping for clothes and shoes. Here are some of them:

Shoe Sizes

Other countries have their shoe sizes in European sizes such as 38, 39, 40, etc. However, this is rarely used in Japan. They use centimeters to measure their feet sizes like 23 cm or 24.5 cm. Here is a reference guide for those who need to know their shoe size in Japan.

Clothing Sizes

It’s not uncommon to see “XS/S/M/L/XL” for clothing sizes in the Philippines, but in Japan, they do not use XL for extra large sizes. Instead, they use LL or 3L, which basically means the same as XL and XXL. Moreover, there are sizes which depend on gender and height. See some of the samples below. Make sure to check before going shopping or doing online shopping.
