Different Ways You Can Learn the Japanese Language
It's easier than you think.
There are many methods for studying Japanese. Finding one that suits a person’s preference will make them enjoy the process, and continue learning. Here are some ways you can learn Japanese. Pick the one that you prefer and get started.
Do it by yourself.
Currently, there are a lot of online media where we can learn by ourselves. There are YouTube videos, Facebook pages, websites, and even mobile apps. Some of which are free while others require a fee. There are also good Japanese language textbooks that you can still buy from the bookstore if you’re into self-studying. But those are not your only choices. If you like anime, manga, or games just change the language to Japanese in the settings, so you can have fun while learning Japanese words from these, too.
If you like to watch Japanese TV series or enjoy listening to Japanese bands, it is easy to learn Japanese from them. The more you listen to the dialogue and the songs, you don’t just learn the words, your ears will get used to the pronunciation of words for daily conversation.
The merits of this method is easy for self-studying, but it can be quite difficult to ask someone when you do not understand a certain word or need further explanation.
Take a class online.
If you are worried about wasting time in traffic jams or find yourself sitting at home with nothing to do, you can find some Japanese online courses on the internet. This is a good way to learn because you can do it from the comforts of your own home. And if you do not understand some points of the lesson, you can always replay any time you want or send a message to the teacher and ask for an explanation. It is better to find a native teacher to study with so you can practice pronunciation with her/him. Sometimes, they will give additional homework to test if you understood the lesson.
Go to a Japanese language school.
For those who are afraid that they cannot force themselves to study continuously, going to a Japanese language school might be good for you. Since you’re in an environment of learning, you have no choice but to study seriously. The great thing about going to a language school is you can practice writing and speaking with a teacher and they will correct your writing or speaking for you. If the teacher is Japanese, it’s a good chance to try to speak in the native language. However, you should understand that the class will open only once or twice per week. So, if you want to learn fast, this might not work for you.
Join a Japanese conversation cafe.
If you are planning to live in Japan, joining a Japanese conversation cafe is one of the ways you can practice speaking in native languages. You’ll also gain some new friends in the process. Mostly, the events are held on weekends or after 6 p.m. on weekdays. Admission can range between ¥1,000 to ¥2,000.
