Planning a family trip can be a handful especially when you’re traveling with children. You want them to enjoy their vacation without being slaves to their gadgets. The trick? Book attractions that will have them interested to step out of the hotel and into the action.
Here are some leisure and shopping areas for parents having trouble with where to bring their children during vacation. This time, we will introduce some factories that welcome small group tours, like families.
Toyota Motor Kyushu Miyata Factory
Watch how the luxury car Lexus is made
Walk through the observation pathway while listening to the guide and you will understand how the car parts are being assembled. Elementary students and below joining the tour from 12:55 p.m. to 2:20 p.m. will receive car plastic model kits as a souvenir. You can also look around the PR facility where cars are displayed for free.

Toyota Motor Kyushu Co., Ltd. Miyata Factory is located at 1 Kamiaruki, Miyawaka City, Fukuoka. It is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily except on weekends (schedules may vary). Yakult Fukuoka Factory
The factory is along Prefectural Road 31. If you’re planning to go with a group of more than 10 people, it is advised to call the factory first.
They manufacture four kinds of Yakult drinks here. More than 10 bottles of Yakult are filled per second in this factory, and you can watch the whole process until shipment (duration: one hour, with tasting). Reservation for up to nine people per group can be made at the official website.

Hiyoko Honpo Yoshinodo Honami Factory
Molded into cute baby chick shape and lined up to be baked in the oven
You can see the baking and manufacturing line of the childhood snack Hiyoko Sweets with bean jam filling. What’s better is that you can taste freshly made Hiyoko treats in this factory. The shop is also designed to look like the original Iizuka Main Store during the early Showa era.
Hiyoko Honpo Yoshinodo Honami Factory is located at 538-1 Rakuichi, Iizuka City, Fukuoka. Free factory tour is available every 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. daily except Wednesdays and Sundays. You may contact them at +81-948-23-0745 (reservation must be made at least one week before).
Yamaguchi Aburaya Fukutaro Soedamachi Menbei Factory
Aside from the Soedamachi Menbei Factory, you can also join the tour of the mentaiko factory in South District, Fukuoka City.
You can visit this factory and try its famous snack, Menbei, manufactured by mentaiko maker Fukutaro. Beside the shop, you can watch the packing line of Menbei through a window. Some products are also sold as souvenir items.
Yamaguchi Aburaya Fukutaro Soedamachi Menbei Factory is located at 2282 Soeda, Soedamachi, Tagawa District, Fukuoka. Free factory tour is available every 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. daily. You may contact them at +81-947-31-4040 (reservation must be made at least one day before).
Tomomasu Drinks Ogi Factory
Make your own handwritten drink labels (¥200). You can also blend your own syrup!
This factory is owned by a drinks manufacturer that was established during the Meiji era and is known for making Kodomobi-ru (children’s “beer”) and other local soda products. During the factory tour, you can enjoy the original syrup that changes daily, and design your own drink labels. They also sell pin badges.
Tomomasu Drinks Ogi Factory is located at 2F 2575-3 Ogimachi Iwakura, Ogi City, Saga Prefecture. Free factory tour is available every 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily except Sundays and holidays (schedules may vary). Nishiraku Milk Industry
In one year, 20,000 tons of milk is produced by Nishiraku Milk Industry for Fukuoka Milk, local school lunches, and other products.
Watch the receiving process from the milk tanker truck and the production line in the factory. Listen to a commentary on milk and join the Q&A session. Then, free tasting of probiotic dairy products (lactose intolerant participants are given fruit juice drinks) is also available.

Kewpie Tosu Factory
The Tosu Factory is the only one in the Kyushu area, among the five factories in the whole country.
A machine is used to break the eggs one after another which can be seen in the production line. The mayonnaise line, where the finished product is poured into its container, is shown through a video. The tour includes learning the history of Kewpie, and also other information about mayonnaise.
