An exhibition Kihachiro Onitsuka's Steps is ongoing from September 7 to October 27 in the exhibition room of the Ishitani Family Residence, No. 1 warehouse of nationally designated important cultural property in Chizu-machi, Yazu District, Tottori Prefecture.
Precious shoes that have carved history are lined up.
Kihachiro Onitsuka, the founder of ASICS, a sports equipment manufacturer with a focus on athletic shoes, was from Tottori.
In this exhibition, everything from basketball shoes, the origin of Onitsuka's shoes, to limited shoes for the 100th anniversary of Kihachiro Onitsuka's birth are exhibiting.
A gallery talk event was held by Masaaki Uetsuki
The person in charge said, “Kihachiro Onitsuka's shoes have carved history with many athletes. In recent years, due to its high design, it has attracted attention in the fashion industry and is gaining further popularity. Last September 16, there was a gallery talk by Masaaki Uetsuki, former managing director of ASICS from Chizu-machi who was the right arm of Onitsuka. Uetsuki who accompanied many international tournaments shared some anecdotes.”
