Japan’s Biwako Terrace Is a Promising Lakeside Retreat
The view alone is worth the trip.
Located at the summit of Lake Biwa Valley, Biwako Terrace has an altitude of 1,100 m. Since opening in July 2016, it has become a popular destination that waiting time can last until 90 minutes on weekends or holidays. We’re not surprised. The temperature up there is 5 to 10 degrees colder than usual, and with the opening of a new cafe, people can expect to experience a relaxing retreat.
In the Biwako Terrace cafe, custom made high end designer furniture lined up with the theme of "Adult mountain resort."
You can also go on a five-minute ride (round trip for ¥ 2,200) to the mountaintop station that’s 1,800 m above the station located at the foot of the mountain.
(The ride is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (runs every 15 minutes) and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during weekends and holidays, No operation in stormy weather)
Different activities at the top of the mountain can give you a picturesque view of Lake Biwa.
At 1,100 m above the ground, Sky Walker is the highest obstacle course in Kansai area that you’ll ever encounter. There’s no doubt that you’ll be holding your breath the entire time you’re navigating the heart-stopping swinging bridges and spider webs! If you’re an adventurous person, we recommend this 90-minute activity that’s priced at ¥2,600.
*Visitors are required to make a reservation on the homepage by 3 p.m. of the day before you visit.
This swing gives you a magnificent view for free.

However, you also have an option to purchase a one-day ticket for ¥1,200 should you wish to try both lifts.
