The panoramic view of islands at Kuratake Shrine will make you imagine the world of myths
Find this spot at the peak of Kuratake (altitude of 682m), the highest of the Amakusa Islands. Enjoy fantastic wide views that will get you double-clicks on Instagram such as a bird’s eye view of the islands of Goshoura floating above the sea and a rounded horizon from afar. It has a better view if you drive up to the Tanasoko area of National Route 266. You may go to the shrine by car.

You can see the islands of Unzen Amakusa Matsushima and Amakusagokyo Bridge from this sightseeing spot. On perfect weather days, you may even see Mount Unzen from afar. It has been selected as one of Japan’s 100 Most Beautiful Sunsets. You can reach the observatory by car, and enjoy hiking on the Kyushu Shizenhodo near the mountain peak.

Get close to dolphins at Wakuwaku Kaichu Suizokukan Sea Donut
It is like an aquarium floating in the sea thanks to a doughnut-shaped boat. Observe fish swimming around the boat from a small window. There are also living creatures in fish tanks, collected from the ocean and rivers. You may interact with the dolphins at the dolphin pool daily. The pop materials made by the staff in each facility are unique and also popular.

The salt bread from L’isola Terrace Amakusa is a good snack while driving
The resort-like commercial complex along the beach has tables with a beautiful view of the ocean. Pets are allowed on the terrace, too. Enjoy plated lunches and pizza using ingredients sourced from Amakusa. Go dolphin watching and on a Gokyo Sightseeing Boat sail from the deck in front. Shiopan (salt bread) (plain) which uses salt from Amakusa is ¥130.

Enjoy a long cave bath pouring hot water of beautiful skin at Daidokutsu no Yado, Yurakutei
There are many visitors who drop by to take a relaxing hot bath at this hot spring resort of Yumigahama. There are 2 kinds of sources of the hot spring: sayu and shin-akayu, and the cave bath has shin-akayu, which has highly energizing carbonic acid. There is also a cold spring. You may take a hot and cold bath to refresh. The 16 rooms are all Japanese-style rooms.

There’s plenty of fresh Amakusa fish at Michinoeki Kamiamakusa Sunpearl
The local fishermen and farmers bring the products every morning. The menu features fresh Amakusa fish and Amakusa dried plum pork, which is popular at the restaurant. The Sunpearl Rice Bowl (¥2,000), which is limited to 20 meals a day, has 10 kinds of seafood such as octopus and bream.
