Ashikaga Flower Park
607 Hasama-cho, Ashikaga city, Tochigi Prefecture, 329-4216
There may be a lot of beautiful gardens in Japan, but Ashikaga Flower Park literally outshines them all. In fact, their Garden of Illuminated Flowers was recently named one of the three great illuminations in Japan by the Night View Summit 2017.
Different illuminations in different areas
The park first opened in 1968 as a flower farm in Horikomi-cho, Ashikaga City. In 1997, it moved to Harima-cho where it reopened as Ashikaga Flower Park. Since then, it has expanded to an impressive 94,000 square meters.
This is the exhibition’s 16th year, with 21 illumination spots in all. However, it’s not just the number that’s impressive, but the great care that has been put into each garden. Expect mesmerizing illuminated trees such as the Miraculously Great Wisteria Tree and the 80-meter-long tunnel made of white wisteria.
Illuminated garden of roses
Make sure to check out the newly built Flower Castle as well. Located on an illuminated field of flowers, it has stairs that lead to a better view of the garden.
There are also cafes and restaurants in the park, so you can keep yourself warm during the cold winter nights.
