Here’s Where You Can Ride the Actual Thomas the Tank Engine in Japan

There’s nothing like seeing your favorite characters come to life. If your kids or younger relatives are a fan of Thomas the Tank Engine, there’s an annual event in Japan you should catch for an opportunity to ride this well-loved bright blue train.
Now on its fifth year, Day Out With Thomas will run from June 9 to October 14, 2018 (including non-operational days), starting from the Oigawa Railway in Shizuoka Prefecture. During this event, the only steam locomotive train in Japan will be dressed up like Thomas and will run a total of 39.5 km from Shin-Kanaya Station to Senzu Station. In addition to the experience of riding the iconic train, traveling along the Oigawa riverside also gives its passengers a breathtaking view of the Southern Alps. Additionally, event goers will also get see Thomas’ friends James, Hiro, Percy, Rusty, and Bertie the Bus for Day Out With Thomas 2018.
Before hopping on the train, we recommend that you try their original Thomas the Tank Engine obento or take-out meal, which will be available at the Plaza Loco in front of Shin-Kanaya Station. You should also check out the limited items exclusively sold inside the train.
At the last stop, the Senzu Station, more exciting things await as there will be lots of other activities and attractions for everyone to enjoy. Guests can ride on the sightseeing train being pulled by Rusty and meet the Troublesome Trucks and Foolish Freight Cars to name a few. It’s really going to be a fun day with Thomas and Friends!
