This Spot in Kyoto Is a Must-Visit During Autumn
A wonderful sight from day to night.
48 Eikando, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto
Open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (reception closes at 4 p.m.)
If you’re planning a trip to Kyoto sometime in November or December, you should definitely include Eikando or Zenrinji Temple in your itinerary. It's a popular spot for viewing the autumn foliage and the Kyoto cityscape in general.
During the day, you can climb up the Tahoto Pagoda. Built in 1928, it stands 13 meters high and offers the perfect vantage point for viewing the Japanese maple trees.
From November 7 to December 6, you can also enjoy the breathtaking illuminated autumn colors at nighttime. The pagoda, along with 3,000 trees, will be lighted up in the evening, and the stone pavements lined with lighted lanterns will definitely give off a romantic vibe!
Our tip: While you’re there, grab a cup of tea and Eikando’s famous mitarashi-dango (mochi balls).
