This Festival Gathers About 1,000 Colorful Goldfish From Around the World
There really are plenty of fish in the sea!
Summer may be technically over in Japan, but the season's festivities are still in full swing. In fact, Sumida Aquarium is holding a summer festival called the Tokyo Goldfish Wonderland 2018 at Tokyo Skytree Town from June 30 (Saturday) up until September 30 (Sunday). Expect to see approximately 1,000 goldfish in one area as this festival isn't just a summer tradition for the Japanese, but also the biggest goldfish exhibition in Japan.
A 100-meter-space has been allotted for the festival this year, with 100 goldfish paper lanterns illuminating the entire area. Inside, you will find 20 varieties of goldfish in different shapes and colors.
A special exhibit, known as the Goldfish Color Comparison, lets you admire the multi-colored goldfish swimming around the tank. Some of these goldfish's colors include yellow, brown, blue, and a couple of unusual hues.
The festival also shows hybrid goldfish. These fish are products of a long period of breeding in the U.S., U.K., China, and all over the world.
If you want to take a break from walking around, there's a hall where you can sit down and drink beer while still being surrounded by the goldfish. Fun Fact: The beer served there comes from the same place where the goldfish are found!
In addition to that, there's a cafe you can visit that serves a drink called Goldfish Soda in Goldfish Tank (￥750). It is a lightly sweetened drink with fruit cocktail and berries.
The berries resemble goldfish in a fishbowl.
It's a yummy drink that lets you "fish" the fruits from the goldfish tank.
What's also great about ordering this drink is that you have the option of taking home the cute container as a souvenir once you're done!
