This Theme Park in Japan Takes Cherry Blossom Viewing Up a Notch
Sakura viewing gets lit.
4015-1 Yanokuchi, Inagi City, Tokyo
Open from October 11 in 2018 to April 7 in 2019, except on February 18 and 19, March 4 to 8, 11 to 15, and 18 to 20.
Illumination starts from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Illumination events may be especially huge in Japan during winter, but this isn’t the only time you can witness these light parades. To coincide with sakura season, for example, popular amusement park Yomiuriland has extended their jewel-themed illumination event because many customers wanted to enjoy the sight of illuminated flowers in the warm spring evening.
Designed by Motoko Ishii, Jewellumination is composed of six million lights, which include a 180-meter row of lit-up cherry blossom trees known as the Yozakura Jewellumination.
There are three ways to enjoy the Yozakura Illumination: from the Ferris wheel, the gondola, or the high-speed coaster, Bandit, which goes as fast as 110 km per hour through the cherry blossoms.
“You will experience a fantastic view that spreads right in front of you, with Jewellumination,” says Yomiuriland’s PR representative. “This is something you can witness only in Spring."
Catch the extended illumination period from February 20 to March 3, March 9, 10, 16, 17, and from March 21 to April 7. The Yozakura Jewellumination specifically starts from March 21.
