Get ideas for your next romantic getaway.
Whether you’re celebrating an anniversary or just want to get out of town for a few days, Fukuoka is a great place to visit. From strawberry-picking to a romantic open-air onsen, here are a few places you can include in your itinerary.
Ukiha Inari Shrine
You can reach the shrine by walking from the bottom or driving to the parking area on the mountainside.
While the Ukiha Inari Shrine is more known for providing good fortune for businesses, similar to Fushimi Inari Shrine, Matsuo Taisha, and the Dazaifu Tenmangu, it has a series of 91 torii gates that overlook the Chikugo plain—the perfect backdrop for couples who want to take a sweet photo or share a moment in front of a picturesque view.
Ukiha Inari Shrine is located at 1513-9, Nagarekawa, Ukiha Town, Ukiha City, Fukuoka Prefecture. They are open all day. You may contact the Ukiha City Tourist Association at +81-943-77-5611.
Shabu-shabu (¥2,000 for one person). The picture above shows a serving portion for two people.
Yoshii Touhachi is popular among foreigners because they are the only shop in Kyushu that serves a famous pork called Tokyo X. Outside Kyushu, it is only available in a number of shops in the Kanto region. Get your fill of this celebrated pork when you order the Shabu-Shabu course with an additional order of Tonkatsu.
Yoshii Touhachi is located at 102-5, Fukumasu, Yoshii Town, Ukiha City, Fukuoka Prefecture. They’re open from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily except Wednesdays unless they fall on a national holiday. Visitors are required to make reservations; contact them at +81-943-75-4738.
At Yokamon Ichigo, there are 11 varieties of strawberries available for picking until mid-May. At ¥1,900, you can stay for as long as you like and eat as many strawberries as you want. Just make sure to make reservations in advance. For a more romantic evening, schedule your trip to coincide with Strawberry Night. Held only on Saturdays inside an illuminated greenhouse, it lets you spend a maximum of an hour picking strawberries for an additional ¥300.
Strawberry picking at night is limited for 60 minutes, and costs an additional ¥300.
Yokamon Ichigo is located at 2495-2, Miharu, Ukiha Town, Ukiha City, Fukuoka Prefecture. They’re open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily on weekdays except Mondays and Fridays, and open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends and national holidays. Strawberry night is only on Saturdays from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. You may contact them at +81-90-9790-0742.
Chikugogawa Onsen Kiyonoya
The alkaline simple spring gives off a slight smell of sulfur. It is a free-flowing bath.
There’s nothing like soaking in a hot bath after a long day of exploring. At the 60-year-old ryokan, you can soak in their main bath for ¥500. In October 2018, they opened a reservation-only rooftop open-air bath made of Japanese cypress, which you can soak in for 50 minutes at ¥3,000. It’s especially romantic at night when the sky is full of stars and the only sound you’ll hear is the soft murmur of the Chikugo River next door.
The facility entertains walk-in reservations only.
Chikugogawa Onsen Kiyonoya is located at 1099-3, Furukawa, Ukiha Town, Ukiha City, Fukuoka Prefecture and is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. You may contact them at +81-943-77-2188.
Ukiha Kaju no mura Yamandon
At this strawberry farm, you can pick from five different strawberry varieties until mid-May for 30 minutes for ¥1,800. They also have a cafe that serves special sweets inside the farm.
Ukiha Kaju no mura Yamandon is located at 2212-7, Yamakita, Ukiha Town, Ukiha City, Fukuoka Prefecture. They’re open from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. daily except Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (priority is given to those with reservations). The cafe is closed only on Wednesdays.
