Itinerary Guide: Take a Day Trip Around Japan’s Toyone Village

For when you need a break from the city.


With Japan’s weather shifting to a warm and comfortable temperature, more and more tourists and locals in the country are interested in exploring the great outdoors.


At the Toyone Village in the Aichi Prefecture, which is a 110-minute drive from Nagoya IC, you can enjoy day spas and go to different spots with beautiful Chausuyama scenery.


In this article, we round up the best places to eat in and visit when you’re in the area.


Chausuyama Kogen Shibazakura Hill


The Chausuyama Kogen Highway is about 14 kilometers long and leads directly to the Chausuyama Kogen.


There are many beautiful scenic spots you’ll pass by on the way to
Chausuyama Kogen. Among these are the Mennoki Enchi, located at the seven-kilometer point, the Yamanami Observatory, and the Hagitaro Observatory, from which you can admire the Mountains of the Southern Alps.

One of the most prominent spots of the place is the
 Chausuyama Kogen Shibazakura Hill, located in between Chausuyama and Hagitaro Mountains. From the observatories in the park, you can get a panoramic view of seven types of shibazakura (pink moss or phlox moss).


The heart-shaped shibazakura is a sight to see!


In addition to this, a
Shibazakura Festival will be held here from May 11 to June 9, 2019, which will feature various street and music performances and 20 different local restaurants. Make sure you don’t miss it!


The park is lit up from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. during the Shibazakura Festival.


Chausuyama Kogen Shibazakura Hill is located at 70-185 Goshodaira, Sakauba, Toyone Village, Kitashitara District, Aichi Prefecture and is open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Admission to this place is free. You may contact the Chausuyama Kogen Association at +81-536-87-2345.


Green Port Miyanoshima Toyone Village Roadside Station


If you’re feeling a little famished from the trip, you can head over to the
Green Port Miyanoshima Toyone Roadside Station, where you can enjoy Toyone-cho’s food. At Yama no Restaurant Furusato, there are many food items loaded with plenty of vegetables. Their Morning Set (¥500) includes bread from Bäckerei Minden and is available until 4 p.m. for as long as it is not sold out.


The Goro Goro Vegetable Grilled Curry (¥900) contains a lot of locally produced vegetables.


The Chouzame (Sturgeon) Set (¥1000) is a set that lets you enjoy the umami of sturgeon meatballs with vinegar.

Green Port Miyanoshima Toyone Village Roadside Station is located at 29-3 Miyanoshima, Sakauba, Toyone Village, Kitashitara District, Aichi Prefecture and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The restaurants here are open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The station is closed on Wednesdays but open during the Shibazakura Festival. Togashima Hot Springs Yu-land Pal Toyone


For your last stop, you can visit the
Togashima Hot Springs Yu-land Pal Toyone and have a relaxing dip in their hot springs while taking in the great scenery.


At Togashima Hot Springs Yu-land Pal Toyone, you can enjoy two types of hot springs.


Once a month, women can enjoy a gorgeous flower tub containing 2,000 flowers.


After blowing off some steam, you can also indulge in a delectable feast at a restaurant there.


The photo shows the Royal Fish Sushi (¥1,800, at the back) and the Shin Toyone Dam Curry (¥940, in front).


Togashima Hot Springs Yu-land Pal Toyone is located at 20 Naganoda, Kamikurokawa, Toyone Village, Kitashitara District, Aichi Prefecture and is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. but closed on Thursdays. The entrance fee is ¥600 for adults. For more information, you may contact them at +81-536-85-1180.


Donguri no Sato Inabu Roadside Station


If you have extra time, you can also head over to the
Donguri no Sato Inabu Roadside Station. There, you can get a taste of their popular rice flour bread at the bakery inside. It’s good to visit the place at different periods too since their seasonal bread changes every month.


Long lines form in front of the counter on weekends and national holidays.


Donguri no Sato Inabu Roadside Station is located at 6-1 Harihara, Busetsu-cho, Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and until 6 p.m. on weekends and national holidays. The Donguri Hot Spring is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and from 9:30 a.m. on weekends and national holidays (Last entrance is at 8 p.m.). It is closed on Thursdays. The Donguri Yokocho is closed from April to November. The entrance fee for the hot springs is ¥600 for adults.
