These Mountainside Glamping Spots in Japan Are So Dreamy

Care to sleep inside a hanging tent?

is becoming very popular in Japan and many facilities have been popping up in the area, each offering a different type of experience.

In this article, we introduce two glamping spots where you can spend a relaxing holiday near the mountains. Whether you’re looking to go cycling, trekking, or just sitting by a campfire at night, these places will offer you a memorable experience.

The Sense of Wonder Holistic Glamping Resort

Apart from their teepee-style tents, the facility also offers cabin rooms with a bed and sofa. Other amenities, like bathrobes, are available for use at the bathroom as well.

stands on the foot of Mount Yufu. Here, you can choose to book both a teepee-style tent and a cabin for your family. You can also enjoy the beautiful nature by the tent, bonfire shed, or at the terrace, or cozy up in the cabin which has a bath and a toilet. Do note that the facilities of this resort will be expanded soon.

If the weather is clear, you can choose to enjoy your food outdoors and be one with nature.

This bonfire shed, built in 2018, was something the owner wanted for a long time. It has the theme of “playing with fire.”

Lodgers may rent bicycles for free. Slowly cycling around Mount Yufu is refreshing!

The Sense of Wonder Holistic Glamping is located at 44-7 Tsukahara, Yufuin-cho, Yufu City, Oita Prefecture. You may contact them at +81-977-85-5066. Check-in time is from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., while check-out time is at 10:30 a.m. They are closed irregularly. The fee is ¥18,000 for one night inclusive of 2 meals. Reservations can be made via phone or online.


The hanging tents are usually up from spring until September. They are hung from two opposite trees, about two to three meters above the ground.

is a facility in the southernmost part of Kyushu. Hanging tents, which are very rare in Japan, are available at the facility from late March to September. There are many sightseeing spots too, on and near the premises. You can enjoy a gorgeous view of the stars or the sunset when you look towards Mount Kaimon, and indulge in a feast made from locally-produced ingredients.

There are six tents on the large premises. Two adults and three children can stay comfortably in each of them.

Enjoy dinner in an open space while watching the sunset at the seaside park named Gold Beach. Delight in this Italian course which makes use of locally-produced ingredients.

The Night Sky of the South Show starts at 8 p.m. You can move to the spot with the starry sky guides and experience stargazing and aerial photography.

We highly recommend trekking to Ogawa Waterfalls early in the morning. It’s a relaxing experience watching the waterfalls and listening to the river flowing.

Check-in time is at 3 p.m., while the check-out time is at 10 a.m. They are closed from Mondays to Thursdays. Fees for one night inclusive of 2 meals per person are 
¥16,000 for those who are middle school students or above, ¥9,000 for those who are 4 years old and above, while children who are 3 years old and below stay for free. You may make reservations online.
