Both locals and tourists alike celebrate summer in Japan by attending different kinds of festivals. Among the most popular are the fireworks festivals, which paint the night sky in thousands of colors. 


If you're heading to Tokai sometime soon, you might want to catch their spectacular fireworks events. We list down them down below: 


63rd National Selection Nagara River Chunichi Fireworks Festival



This fireworks show is a much-awaited event held on the stage of Nagara River. It will showcase special works of the Japan Fireworks Art Association, Wide Starmine, and Original Starmine during the show. Throughout the Starmine competition, an online vote system will be done for this year. Moreover, the event will be on live broadcast on the FM Gifu Hear the Firework and on the channel of LINE LIVE.


The 63rd National Selection Nagara River Chunichi Fireworks Festival will be held at the Nagara River, Gifu City, Gifu Prefecture on July 27, 12 p.m. to 8:35 p.m. The fireworks show starts at 7:20 p.m. There will be no postponement for light rain. In case of stormy weather, the event will be postponed and rescheduled to August 17, 2019 (Sunday). Shuttle bus services will start at 4 p.m. (Adult ¥210, children ¥110 for a one-way ticket) at the Meitetsu Nagoya Line Meitetsu-Gifu Station or JR Tokaido Line Gifu Station. Traffic regulations around the venue will be set on the festival day. There will also be a shuttle bus on free temporary parking (Adult ¥210, children ¥110 for a one-way ticket). Okazakijouka Ieyasukou Summer Festival 71st Fireworks Display



This famous fireworks display will be held in Okazaki, the birthplace of Tokugawa Ieyasu. The show will feature the skills of fireworks craftsmen, who come from the birthplace of Mikawa fireworks. Based on the beautiful scene of Okazaki Castle, traditional Japanese fireworks such as Melody Starmine, Gingyo Hanabi, Gintaki, and Onoshinado will be launched into the sky. About 100 stores and restaurants will also be open until midnight at the venue. 


The Okazakijouka Ieyasukou Summer Festival 71st Fireworks Display will be held at Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture on August 3, from 6:50 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will be no postponement for light rain. In case of stormy weather, the event will be postponed and rescheduled to August 4, 2019 (Sun). The launch site is a 10-minute walk from the Meitetsu Nagoya Line Higashi-Okazaki Station or Okazakik?en-mae Station. Nobi Grand Fireworks Festival



The fireworks festival will be held jointly by Hashima City, Gifu Prefecture and Ichinomiya City, Aichi Prefecture. Colorful fireworks such as the two-shakudama fireworks, which has the largest display in Tokai, the reverse Niagara Falls fireworks that's 200 meters in width, and the gorgeous Starmine fireworks will fill the night sky. In addition to this, Makiwara boats holding around 400 lanterns will float on the riverside of the Kisogawa River, where the fireworks will be displayed. 


The Nobi Grand Fireworks Festival will be held at the Kisogawa River, Hashima City, Gifu Prefecture on August 14, starting from 7:30 p.m. There will be no postponement for light rain. In case of stormy weather, the event will be postponed and rescheduled to August 16, 2019 (Fri). Shuttle bus services will be available at the culture center and Shinnyoen. 73rd Marine Day Nagoya Minato Fireworks Festival



The fireworks display will be held in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, during the culmination of the Marine Day Nagoya Minato Festival. For the finale, music will be synchronized with the fireworks. This event will definitely excite the audience. 


The 73rd Marine Day Nagoya Minato Fireworks Festival will be held at Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture on July 15 (Japanese holiday) from 7:30 p.m. to 8:20 p.m. In case of stormy weather, the event will be cancelled. The launch site is near Nagoyako Subway Station, a 10-minute walk from Tsukijiguchi Subway Station, and a 30-minute walk from Inaei Station Aonami Line. 66th Abe River Fireworks Festival



The fireworks show will be held at the riverbed of Abegawa River, Shizuoka City. It is celebrated as part of the Kyoto festival with wishes of memorial and peace. The magnificent performance will consist of Starmine, Great Starmine, and Syakutama. Sponsorship is open to general citizens.


The 66th Abe River Fireworks Festival will be held at Aoi-ku, Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture on July 27, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will be no postponement for light rain. In case of stormy weather, the event will be cancelled. The launch site is 10 minutes by taxi from the JR Tokaido Line Shizuoka Station. Tahara Festival & Five Towns Fireworks



The fireworks event will be held in Tahara City, Aichi Prefecture. The show starts with about 200 hand-held fireworks, cannon fireworks, and shakudama balls being launched continuously in the sky. In addition to this, specially-designed ground effect fireworks and Starmine will color the night sky of the Atsumi Peninsula. The schedule for the fireworks are as follows: Hand-held fireworks (5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.), cannon fireworks (6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.), and skyrockets (8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.).


The Tahara Festival & Five Towns Fireworks will be held in Tahara City, Aichi Prefecture on September 15, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. There will be no postponement for light rain. In case of stormy weather, the event will be postponed and rescheduled to September 16, 2019 (Holiday). The launch site is a 15-minute walk northeast from Toyohashi Railway Mikawatahara Station. Kariya Wansaka Matsuri Festival & Fireworks



This fireworks display will mark the last of “Kariya Wansaka Matsuri." Its main highlight is the Starmine fireworks, which will be launched with music.


The Kariya Wansaka Matsuri Festival & Fireworks will be held at Kariya City, Aichi Prefecture on August 17, starting from 7 p.m. There will be no postponement for light rain. In case of stormy weather, the event will be cancelled. The launch site is about a 20-minute walk from Meitetsu Fujimatsu Station or Hitotsugi Station. Free shuttle bus services will be available from the Meitetsu/JR Kariya Station. 43rd Kasugai-shi Nouryou Festival



Music fireworks and Starmine fireworks will be launched into the summer night sky at one of Japan's Top 100 City Parks. There will also be a Bon festival—a dance festival where everyone can participate—an ice sculpture, a wind-bells corner, and a night shop with an extensive menu.


The 43rd Kasugai-shi Nouryou Festival fireworks show will be held at Kasugai City, Aichi Prefecture on July 27, from 7:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. The festival is from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. There will be no postponement for light rain. In case of stormy weather, the event will be postponed and rescheduled to July 28, 2019 (Sun). Free shuttle bus services will be available at the JR Katsukawa Station, Kasugai Station, Kouzouji Station, and Meitetsu Ajiyoshi Station. 64th Toba Minato Matsuri Festival



The fireworks display will be held in Toba City, Mie Prefecture. The famous underwater fireworks will light up the sea's surface like a flower field, while the 1-shakudama fireworks will be launched into the sky. Aside from the fireworks, performances of local groups will also be done. 


The 64th Toba Minato Matsuri Festival fireworks show will be held in Toba City, Mie Prefecture on July 26, from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. The festival starts at 6 p.m. In case of stormy weather, the event will be postponed and rescheduled to July 27, 2019 (Sat). Fukuroi Enshu Fireworks Festival 2019



After the festival's date was moved to "Yamanohi", the new national holiday from 2016, the event has since been celebrated in Fukuroi, the town of fireworks. Fireworks craftsmen from different parts of Japan have been selected to take part in the
National Fireworks Masters Selected Competition. This event consists of two parts—"Starmine's 2 succession" and "Creative Fireworks". Besides that, various attractions such as "Japan's Best Jumbo Starmine," "Japan's Best Melody Starmine," "A Niagara Falls in the Sky," "Big Shot 100 Succession," and "Dramatic Fireworks" will also be held during the event. 


Since Fukuroi City is one of the places for the Rugby World Cup 2019, which will be held in September of this year, a rugby-related program is planning the event.


The Fukuroi Enshu Fireworks Festival 2019 will be held in Fukuroi City, Shizuoka Prefecture on August 10, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. In case of stormy weather, the event will be postponed and rescheduled to August 11, 2019 (Sun). The launch site is a 20-minute walk from Aino Station or Fukuroi Station on JR Tokaido Line.
