Among the often underrated manga and anime series of all time is One Piece. If you're a huge fan of Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates, you might want to consider adding Tokyo's One Piece Tower to your itinerary.
As the first theme park in history to feature One Piece, special events such as the Cruise History and One Piece Live Attraction "Marionette" will be held to celebrate the anime's 20th anniversary.
In Cruise History, a voice-based speech-navigation system called Mugi-Navi (which literally means "Straw-Navi") and a riddle-solving type of event called Sugolog Cruise will be launched. These focus on the large-scale exhibitions found on the fifth floor of the park. The Portrait.Of.Pirates is also displayed here, which is a series of high-quality figures.
In the Mugi-Navi (rental fee is ¥800 per unit), the voice actors of the Straw Hat Pirates will guide you throughout the Cruise History in round-table form. All in all, there are 20 audio clips. However, there are extra clips and secret ones which you'll have to search for.
If you successfully collect the keywords announced from Volumes 1 to 3, you'll get an autographed paper by the Straw Hat Pirates’ voice actors as well!
In the riddle-solving event Sugolog Cruise, you'll follow the 20-year history of the anime and participate in missions linked to the contents of Cruise History. During these missions, you'll have to find keywords that are hidden around the park.
There are original scene cards that are given as gifts on Saturdays, Sundays, and Japanese Holidays. Overall, there are 92 types to collect.
Note: This event is free. Anyone who has a Park Pass can participate in the activity once a day.
Both Mugi-Navi and Sugolog Cruise registrations are accepted in the Tongari Tourist Information Center located on the fourth floor.
Apart from this, there is also a booth on the fourth floor where you can watch the One Piece anime series. The original illustrations of the opening song made 20 years ago and animated storyboard of the entire video is available here as well.
The wall on the third floor has been redesigned with a huge map showing the chronological events of the One Piece Animation 20-Year History.
Both the Café Mugiwara and Sanji’s Oresama Restaurant are located on the first floor and offer various limited-edition items, such as East Blue, Alabasta, and Sky Island, from 3 p.m. onwards.
Themed goods are also available at the Mugiwara Store and Tongari Store.
Another special event that will be held to commemorate the series' anniversary is the One Piece Live Attraction “Marionette.” This will be done on the fifth floor live stage.
Join the new adventures of Luffy and his friends in this 20-minute live entertainment show, which uses projection mapping and lighting technology.
Marionette is the fourth series of the two-year finished work and features Sabo, Caesar Clown, and Big Mom’s Charlotte onstage.
How will Luffy overcome Caesar’s trick? The only way to find out is to watch!
Do note that if you haven't bought the Live & Park Pass, you'll need to buy a Live Ticket to be able to watch the live concert.
Enjoy 20 years of epic animation unfolding before your eyes at the Tokyo One Piece Tower.
