Here’s What Christmas Is Like in Tokyo

The brighter, the better.

People celebrate Christmas differently in different parts of the world. In Japan, locals usually go out to shop for gifts and have dinner with family and friends. Certain neighborhoods also go all out with their holiday light displays. If you’re spending the holidays in Tokyo, make sure to check these places off your list!

Artelligent Christmas 2017 in Roppongi Hills started last November and will last until the 25th of December. While in the area, you also have to visit the Keyakizaka Illuminations, an illumination event where you can view about 400 meters worth of keyaki trees. It starts at 5 p.m. until 11 p.m.

Also check out 66 Plaza and West Walk, where there will be new light displays to see.

Starlight Garden

You should also see the Midtown Christmas 2017 at Tokyo Midtown. It started last November 15 and will last until Christmas Day. This year’s theme is “A Journey to Outer Space.” You also have to see the Starlight Garden 2017. It is Tokyo Midtown’s main event. Marvel at the lights and sound display across the mall’s 2,000-square-meter long lawn. The illumination display starts at 5 p.m. and ends at 11 p.m.

For dinner, enjoy a meal at Le Bourguignon. It features one of the best French cuisines in Tokyo. Aside from the good food and magnificent Burgundy-style ambiance, you’ll also love their charming chef. Don’t miss their delicate dishes which are created with traditional techniques.

If you prefer Italian cuisine, then try Fiorentina, the cafe at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo. They serve different kinds of Italian dishes like pizza, pasta, and other à la carte meals, but you can also try their course meals. They have a limited Christmas course called Natale, a five-course meal served only from December 22 to December 25. Book a reservation now before it’s too late.

You’ll find plenty of gift choices at the Snoopy Museum where there are  exactly 200 new items to choose from. Featured above is their tote bag collection, which is their second collaboration with L.L. Bean. These thick red and black canvas bags are part of the Boat and Tote collection. The smaller bags sell for ¥8,640, and the medium ones sell for ¥10,800.

You can also try having fine tea at this specialty shop which originated from Vienna. DEMMERS TEEHAUS is Asia's first shop of tea brands.
