Once the Christmas season rolls in, Marunouchi and Yaesu, two big business districts near Tokyo Station, hold magnificent light displays that can make even the grouchiest grinch feel the Yuletide spirit. Read on to find out what you can expect.
Marunouchi Illumination 2017

During this time of the year, an entire stretch of streets and shops in the Marunouchi area is embellished with around 930,000 gorgeous colored bulbs, lighting up the cityscape.
Called “A Night View Inheritance of Japan,” the Marunouchi Illumination is a brilliant display of more than 200 shimmering roadside trees in Marunouchi Naka Dori. The champagne gold color of the trees is absolutely captivating.

Drop by to experience the Christmas season at its brightest, and don’t forget to take a selfie or two. If you’re lucky, you might even get to catch the lighting ceremony and other special events.

TOKYO ILLUMILIA 2017-2018 takes on the theme, “Edo Neo Moderninsm.” Edo Kiriko-patterned monuments and street lights adorned with kumi-ichimatsu designs beautify the area of Sakura Dori in Yaesu, Nihonbashi. In addition, cherry trees that line the street are decorated with champagne gold lights, making the place a breathtaking sight where dazzling gates connect.

Experience WHITE KITTE , a fantastic silver world on the first floor of KITTE, located beside Tokyo Station. There, you’ll see the famous white Christmas tree at the center of KITTE’s atrium. The tree’s impressive decorations make it seem as if snow was piled on a real fir tree. You’ll definitely feel the Christmas spirit! Moreover, it will remind you of winter in Northern Europe. How lovely is that?

The light display of Tokyo Michi Terasu is not one to be missed either. Nicolai Bergman, a well-known flower artist, helms the show as its general producer, decorating the town with flowers and lights. The neighboring area is popular because of its large commercial facilities and shops.
Tokyo Michi Terasu will run from December 24, 2017 to December 28, 2017.
